Match Review MFLCC SF2 | Selangor FC 1-0 Penang FC (Agg. 2-0) | Through To The Finals

Selangor FC qualified for the 2024/25 MFL Challenge Cup Final with 2-0 aggregate score after Penang FC lost 1-0 in the second Semi-Final match yesterday at the MBPJ Stadium, Kelana Jaya.

Both teams delivered an exciting and hard-fought match, with the intensity picking up in the second half. Kalamullah Al-Hafiz faced a series of tough challenges, but it was Alvin Fortes who made the difference, scoring the only goal of the game in the 65th minute. Receiving a precise pass from Nooa Laine on the left side of the field, Fortes fired a shot that found the back of the net. This goal secured his team's 2-0 aggregate victory and a spot in the 2024/25 MFL Challenge Cup Final.

According to Selangor FC Head Coach, Katsuhito Kinoshi, he was proud of the players' never give up spirit.

"In the first round, the team was leading with a result of 1-0, so, I told the players that we have to win this. They (Penang FC) posed a dangerous threat but the players managed to stop them and score a goal. Of course they had a few chances but Kalamullah managed to protect the goalposts brilliantly. I am also sure that this victory is the result of their hard work and the never give up spirit that was shown, which is very encouraging. However, we must always learn from every match to be better for the next match,” said Kinoshi.

From the #SFCPEN match in the second Semi-Final of the MFL Challenge Cup 2024/25 yesterday, several important things can be seen, such as:-

Kalamullah Al-Hafiz's excellent action

Among the players who deserve praise in the #SFCPEN match is the Red Giants' new goalkeeper, Kalamullah Al-Hafiz. Many dangerous attempts were successfully blocked with his agility and reflexes. According to Katsuhito Kinoshi, Kalamullah meet the expectations, “The performance shown by Kalamullah is good, we have three other goalkeepers and they are all good but so far Kalamullah has shown consistent performance, responded well to our (coaching) expectations and gained the trust of his teammates, which is why he is listed as the goalkeeper.”

According to the record, Kalamullah made his debut on 19th October 2024 against PDRM FC in the 2024/25 Super League and he has six clean sheets recorded from nine matches.

Praise must be given to all the players who played in the #SFCPEN match yesterday. Each player played an important role in helping the team qualify for the 2024/25 MFL Challenge Cup Final.

The Final will be played in a two-leg format. Selangor FC will meet PDRM FC in the first round on 15th February at the MBPJ Stadium, Kelana Jaya. The team will visit the Majlis Bandaraya Selayang Stadium for the second round on 22nd February.
